Caring for your driving shoes
For models containing leather:
What you will need:
- A damp cloth
- Leather care products
- Shoe trees
- Waterproofing agent
Clean your shoes with a damp cloth. This will remove dirt without damaging the leather.
The uppers of your shoes should be regularly greased with a little leather grease to prevent creases from forming… we recommend using shoe trees to maintain the shape of the shoe, prevent creases, and allow the shoe to dry properly …
This will allow you to maximize the lifespan of your leather shoes.
Remember to polish your shoes to maintain their shine .
Also remember to waterproof your pair with a special colorless product fairly regularly (once a week).
For Nubuck models:
What you will need:
- Soft brush
- Special Nubuck rubber
- A suitable cleaning product
It is important to clean with a dry brush.
Nubuck leather is a textured leather . This means that it more easily attracts dust and dirt. This is especially true for shoes.
The first step is to clean the surface of the leather.
To do this, start by removing the laces and then brush the shoe.
You can use either a soft - bristled brush, which will gently and effectively remove dust embedded in the leather, or a stiff-bristled brush. HOWEVER, this latter brush can damage the shoe's surface over time. Therefore, use it with great care.
If there are stains on the nubuck of the shoe, they must be removed before they permanently penetrate the leather.
Special erasers exist for this type of material. They allow you to easily remove stains from the surface of the shoe.
If you have any doubts, we encourage you to consult a specialist who can advise you on the choice of your cleaning products.
Following this, you can apply a cleaning product specifically designed for nubuck, which will deep clean it. Several types of sprays are available and are easy to use.
After applying the product, wait for the shoe to dry completely; this can take several hours. Then, take your soft brush and brush the shoe.
For the canvas models:
First and foremost:
- Remove the laces and soak them in warm water with soap.
- Brush your shoes with a soft, dry brush to remove excess mud or dust.
- Clean your shoes on their entire surface, even the parts that seem clean to you.
Once that's done, there are two product solutions:
A mixture of dishwashing liquid and baking soda.
What you will need:
- A container filled with lukewarm water (Be careful not to make the color run or damage the glue on the sole!).
- A dose of baking soda.
- A dose of dishwashing liquid.
- A soft brush or an old toothbrush.
Dip your brush in the mixture of water, dish soap, and baking soda, then scrub the entire surface of your shoes with the brush. Rinse them with clean water using a sponge or a clean cloth.
Tip : If your shoes are really dirty, use washing soda crystals instead of baking soda; this will help remove heavy stains more thoroughly.
A mixture of Marseille soap, white vinegar and lemon juice.
What you will need:
- A container filled with lukewarm water (Be careful not to make it too hot, otherwise it may cause the color to run or damage the glue on the sole!).
- A Marseille soap.
- A lemon.
- White vinegar (the smell of white vinegar evaporates quickly and leaves no smell afterwards).
- A soft brush or an old toothbrush.
Dip your brush in a mixture of water, white vinegar, and the juice of one lemon. Rub your brush on Marseille soap, then over the entire surface of your shoes. Rinse with clean water using a sponge or a clean cloth.
Tip : If your shoes leave very large stains, rub them with toothpaste to make them disappear more easily.
